AE-Amp MK II

Universal amplifier for acoustic emission analysis

The AE-Amp amplifier is a universal preamplifier for acoustic emission sensors from various manufacturers. The AE-Amp can be used with passive, JFET, ICP/IEPE or constant voltage sensors.

The AE-Amp has two independent channels and is available either as a boxed version or as a rack-mountable module. Each channel has 4 gain levels: 0 dB, 20 dB, 40 dB and 60 dB. The amplifier is configured via the USB / RS485 interface.

The input stage is AC coupled at a lower filter frequency of 5 kHz. The upper bandwidth is between 1 and 3 MHz, depending on the gain level.

If the connected sensor is also used as an actuator, it is possible to switch off the amplification stage via software and to connect an additionally connected high-voltage pulser to the sensor input.

The new product version MK II comes with new setting options:

  • Switching from IEPE to DC sensor supply can now be done via software. In addition to 28V, 5V is now also available as a supply voltage.
  • Split mode: the second channel can now use the input from the first channel as the signal source. This allows a sensor signal to be routed to two different amplifier stages. This can be helpful for measurements in which very weak but also very strong AE events occur.
  • The new module width now allows up to 24 (3 U rack) and 48 (6 U rack) channels to be installed per device.
